Working on now

Design tokens

We're transitioning to a design token architecture to create a platform-agnostic, single source of truth for our design decisions. Aligned with the W3C Design Token specification and stored in JSON, our tokens will be consumable by any platform, from web and native mobile apps to enterprise applications.

Web components

We are currently developing a platform-agnostic web component library. These are built on the Lit 3 framework and integrate our design tokens for a consistent UI experience. The goal is to allow a single HTML tag to be dropped into any environment and output a fully functional, styled and accessible component.

We’re focusing on our current core components first - see the web components in active development. We will then add further components to support transactional services.

A new 'Details summary' component

We are adding a 'Details summary' component to make pages easier to scan. It uses a single expandable toggle to hide information that only some users need. It will enable help text to be added to complex forms without cluttering the page, and users can see extra information if they choose to reveal it.

Coming up next

  • Header enhancements
  • A new QGDS UI Kit that integrates design tokens and leverages the latest Figma features such as modes and slots.
  • Form patterns.

Future plans

  • A UI kit for mobile applications.
  • A UI kit for conversational interfaces.
